Post-Brexit border control posts inside the UK are coming! – Brexit explained
Today I want to give you some comments on the instalment of Border Control Posts in Northern Ireland on January 1st, although Boris Johnson always denied that.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other ministers have repeatedly said, there will be no checks and controls in Northern Ireland
But the European Commission has told the UK it must ensure that official Border Control Posts (so-called BCPs) be designated and operational in Northern Ireland from 1 January next year.
That always was part of the Withdrawal Agreement, ratified by both – the EU and the UK.
From the end of the year, Northern Ireland will remain in the single market after Brexit, but the rest of the UK will not.
