For Northern Ireland in particular, the UK vote to leave the EU has been politically divisive and constitutionally destabilising.
The 1998 Belfast Agreement included a three-stranded formula which aimed to normalise and institutionalise contested relationships within Northern Ireland, between Northern Ireland and Ireland, and between the two islands.
